Pirate Light

What if a fearsome pirate was afraid of the dark? Would he need a little lantern to fall asleep at night? Pirate Light celebrates the hope that even evil characters have a weak point. A bit less for little sailors to worry about when they go to bed! Using a traditional symbol of fear, Pirate Light points out that in fact there is nothing to be afraid of.

Coming from the idea of ‘Lithophanie’ a 19th century porcelain technique to create flat images through a relief in the material, I was interested to create a night light. Because the traditional technique is constricted to flat surfaces I used the technology of rapid prototyping to achieve three dimensional images.
